Places to visit in London: Primrose Hill viewpoint

The endless question: what places to visit in London? Well, there’s always something to do in the capital and one of our favourites is the Primrose Hill viewpoint.

London is BIG. Huge in fact.

So, when you stumble across a slice of village life in the city, it's hard not to love it. And that's exactly what Primrose Hill is, a beautiful village nestled amongst a very bustling city.

Where is Primrose Hill in London?

A short distance walk from Camden (approx. 15 minutes by foot!) and an easy commute to the West End, it's clear to see the appeal of this iconic North London area.

Chalk Farm tube station is the one you'll want for Primrose Hill, or Kentish Town if you’re coming by train. It's around a 10-minute walk from the tube to the main Regents Park road where you'll find the path up to the Primrose Hill view. There are plenty of bus routes into Primrose Hill too, via buses1, 13, 18, 27, 30, 31, 74, 82, 113, 139, 159, 189, 274, C11 and C2.

We recommend City Mapper or Google Maps to find your bearings once you step out of the station.

What's in Primrose Hill?

This urban village has it all.

It's full of local shops, a brilliant choice of pubs and restaurants plus, it's right next door to Regent's Park.

The Queen's is a famous pub situated right next door to the entrance for Primrose Hill. It serves up seasonal British food and prides itself on the best roast dinner in North London. Now that's quite the statement. One of our favourite things to do in London is catch a quick pint in The Queen's and then head on up to the top of Primrose Hill for sunset.

We have to admit, a Sunday Funday spent here enjoying their bottomless Yorkshires and necking bloody Mary's sounds absolutely wonderful to us!

Where can you eat in Primrose Hill?

Like every good London hangout, there's cafes and restaurants aplenty in Primrose Hill.

Whether it's the popular Lemonia for a taste of Greece, the Michelin starred Odette's for fine dining or London pub stalwart, The Lansdowne, Primrose Hill has eating out all wrapped up.

Or, like us (and many others!) you can pack yourself a picnic and enjoy a veggie wrap at the top of the Primrose Hill viewpoint.

During the summer months you'll notice picnic goers in abundance. Long summer evenings and the most popular view of London make the perfect canvas for a few drinks and a little buffet.

Whether it's locals, people pitching up after work or families flying kites, it's always an atmospheric spot. Perfect for a picnic, sunbathing or a jog come sundown. It’s also something free to do in London which is always a winner!

What else can you do in Primrose Hill?

If an iconic view point and plenty of pubs aren't floating your boat then Primrose Hill still has more to offer.

As weekends in London are notoriously busy, why not try and head over to this part of the capital during the week. If so, you'll find some fab independent shops...

Look out for modern greengrocer's Melrose and Morgan, interior treasure trove Graham and Green, the village go-to for a decent brunch Greenberry Cafe and Primrose Hill Books for one of London's leading independent bookshops.

There is also a market every Saturday where you’ll find award-winning farmers, small batch producers and street food traders. Primrose Hill market is open every Saturday 9.30pm - 3pm and you can also follow them on Instagram for all updates.

Top tip: Don't forget your camera!

Regents Park Road is a people watcher and aimless wanderer's dream. The area can bring quite the celebrity crowd and as it's steeped in history, you'll sometimes spot a famous face or two.

Whenever it comes to London, we always find it a joy to just wander. To observe. There's always something to see round every corner.
