East London: THE PARK THAT HAS SEEN US THROUGH LOCKDOWN
We love to travel; whether it’s day trip to coast or a countryside staycation, finding new spots around the UK is one of our favourite pastimes.
But this year exploring what’s on our doorstep has taken on a whole different meaning. We’ve been walking around our local park since March. For over 9 months we’ve been roaming the same patch of nature but even in the most repetitive and mundane of days, we have been so thankful for it.
We remember when it was spring and a carpet of bluebells took over, we’ve seen swans becomes parents and watched their signets flourish, we’ve enjoy cans of g&t’s in the height of summer and looked on as the golden hues of autumn transform the trees, and then to finish off the year we witnessed the frost set in. Looking back, enjoying this patch of nature change with the seasons has offered comfort, as well as given us something to enjoy photographing.
It’s been one hell of a year, but when we think about it what has gotten us through (apart from each other) it has been getting back to nature. Enjoying the small things and taking a moment to embrace what we have around us. It’s been a lovely calm amongst the chaos.
Here’s to 2021, a new year that for a while won’t change too dramatically, but as the world begins to heal and normality slowly returns, we’ll never forget our walks around Wanstead Park. How for 9 months this little patch of London nature gave us solace. We’ll certainly be making sure that our 2021 is full of nature, local walks and taking things a little slower.
Wishing you all a healthy, happy and positive year ahead.
P.s We also love to (occasionally) film our adventures, so if you’d like to see some snippets from our local walks then watch our YouTube video below…
