Where to stay in Sydney Harbour if you’re after a touch of luxury

After a fancy hotel stay in the city? Then look no further…

We love nothing more than a good hotel find, and that’s exactly what Pier One is. Nestled beneath the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, this excellently located hotel is not only a great place to stay, it’s also a great place to eat and drink.  We were lucky enough to enjoy a staycation here which enabled us to explore the city of Sydney with such ease thanks to its fantastic location and transport links.

Pier One is a hotel of time gone by, its beautiful exposed beams and use of reclaimed timber is a historic nod to its old life as a shipping wharf. The friendly bar feels like the centre point of the hotel with various seating arrangements positioned around it, again, all with beautiful views looking out to the water.

Upon arrival we were greeted with a glass of fizz, leaving us to sip away and admire the stunning views whilst waiting for check-in (an easy way to win us over!), the rooms are spacious and impeccably finished with a snack and mini bar providing the finest drinks and nibbles. We. Were. Sold. You’ll notice a strong maritime vibe throughout the hotel too, especially in the rooms; whether it’s wooden light fittings or hanging fish skeletons, the prominent theme definitely looks the part.

The huge bed and sea views were the epitome of luxury living, we stayed here for a special occasion as it’s a pretty luxurious stay. Well worth it though if you are celebrating something!

Our mini staycation consisted of rest, good food and cocktails – there’s something so nice about enjoying a posh hotel on your doorstep. Of course we explored, but it was at a slower pace as we already knew the city so well. The highlight of our stay had to be The Gantry. This hatted restaurant is a serious delight; with sea views and a menu to test the taste buds, it is well worth a visit.

  1. A big regret that we weren’t able to include Sydney on our trip to NZ but will visit someday
