We decided the best Christmas gift to get each other was something travel related, and as we're currently exploring the UK, a staycation seemed perfect. Wales had been on our hit-list for a while now and although there is so much to see, our first trip to this mountainous land was to Brecon Beacons. When it comes to where to stay in Brecon Beacons, we struck gold with our accommodation.

WHERE TO STAY IN BECON BEACONS: WHY THIS IS THE BEST B&B ON OFFER

We were last minute with this trip, so used our favourite site, Booking.com to secure a place to stay. We were in luck. The Townhouse at Brecon was available and it was a no-brainer booking thanks to its impeccable star rating.

Located in a place called Brecon - a small town nestled within the Brecon Beacons National Park - the B&B had everything we needed. The town albeit small, was full of cute local shops and a few pubs and restaurants which made for a really nice stroll about of a morning.

WHERE TO STAY IN BECON BEACONS: ABOUT THE B&B

The Townhouse at Brecon is a luxury, boutique B&B which overlooks the River Honddu - it's run by Paula and Glen who are the loveliest of hosts. We had planned to stay for two nights and travelled up from London by car. There is a very reasonable pay and display car-park right next door to the B&B which made it easy to stroll over with our bags. Note: The car-park charges from 8am - 6pm and doesn't take card so be prepared with small change.

On arrival we were greeted by Paula and Glen who were warm and friendly. They welcomed us with smiles and a wealth of important information. We were very kindly upgraded to their Castle Keep room which is a large attic room. This beautiful room features an ornate gold French king size bed and a free-standing bath, as well views over the River Honddu and the iconic Pen Y Fan Mountain.

The room was spacious, the bed was insanely comfortable and the bath was a dream. It also included a delicious breakfast every morning with vegetarian options and plenty of coffee! We took our bags up to our room and found a selection of refreshments and some tasty welsh cakes waiting for us.

WHAT IS NEAR THE TOWNHOUSE AT BRECON?

The main attraction is Pen y Fan, the highest peak in south Wales which sits at 886 metres high. We love photography and enjoyed shooting this impressive mountain - you can read about the hike HERE.

There are plenty of other places to visit throughout your stay at Brecon. Wooded valleys, high moorland, reservoirs, hidden walking tracks and flowing waterfalls to name a few. Another reason why this B&B was a winner was the amount of information on offer. By the front door and in the lounge area we found books and leaflets with all the local sights on offer. Paula helpfully printed out directions for us too.

If the weather is bad then don't fear, there is a rather chic lounge to chill out in too. It comes complete with a fully stocked honesty bar and comfortable, Instagrammable Chesterfield sofas. Tea, and coffee making facilities are always available in the afternoon as well as cake and local treats during peak season.

We can't recommend this B&B enough. If you're looking at where to stay in Brecon Beacons, then this is it.
