A dog-friendly hotel in Glasgow: Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel
If you love to travel with your pup and are seeking out hotels in Glasgow that allow dogs, then look no further…
The Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel is located in the heart of Glasgow city center, a short walk from Sauchiehall Street, this restored 19th-century Georgian townhouse is the epitome of sophisticated luxury, but with a super laid-back and relaxed feel.
Put it this way, it’s a 5* hotel that oozes cool glamour but leaves the stuffiness at the door - a vibe we loved very much!
Now we have our dog we tend to focus on places that allow us to bring her along, so we were very excited for an invitation to experience the historic city haven of one of the most iconic dog-friendly hotels in the Glasgow area.
Our Scotland trip was a week-long affair; we had 3 nights in a beautiful cabin in Ayreshire booked as well as a few nights with family, so we quite fancied including a city staycation in and amongst the other types of travel we had planned for the week.
First things first, the staff are SO friendly.
Nothing was too much trouble, yes we know it’s a 5* hotel and the service should be excellent, but nothing felt forced - it was easygoing, with good chats, and genuine questions.
We’d driven up from Ayr and were welcomed with a huge smile and plenty of cuddles (for our dog, not us!) so we were off to a good start.
It was around 4 pm by the time we got our key so we dumped our stuff on the bed and admired the room, (AND BALCONY - having a terrace was super handy with the dog!) before heading out to explore the area.
Where is Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel?
Located in Glasgow's West End, the area is full of quirky lanes, beautiful architecture, and an amazing food scene - all topped off with a trendy and relaxed vibe. The location was so good, you’ll find yourself around a10-minute walk to the Kings Theatre Glasgow and Royal Concert Hall as well as close by to plenty of restaurants.
The hotel sits in a historic square and overlooks a huge well-kept garden that it has the keys to. You can ask reception to let you in so your dog can have a good run around in the morning away from the road and cars.
Even though the hotel is so central it still feels super peaceful, the garden really adds to that tranquility element.
The history of Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel
This beautiful period building sits in the prestigious Blytheswood Square which was built back in the the1800s. It used to be occupied by the Royal Scottish Automobile Club and is now recognised as the only hotel in the city with AA accreditation.
The revival of this old building has retained the original character but weaved impeccable design-led elements and pure opulence into the refurb. Every corner you turn there’s something to marvel at.

What are the check-in and check-out times at Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel?
You can check-in from 3 pm until midnight and check-out time is noon.
Does Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel have parking?
There is no onsite car parking at the hotel. You can, however, find on-street parking available on Blythswood Square. Charges are around £4 per hour, between 8 am - 6 pm Monday to Sunday. We ended up paying for around 4 or 5 hours in total and nabbed a space right outside the hotel so was super handy.
Forgot it? We’ve got it!
This service is a really nice touch, if you’ve forgotten anything just let the hotel know and they will sort it for you! Can’t remember the number of times we’ve not packed the toothpaste, typically on this occasion we did, but this is a thoughtful addition to the stay.
What is there to do nearby in terms of food and drink?
It’s worth noting, that in terms of food you don’t even need to leave the hotel, and that’s thanks to the amazing on-site iasg Restaurant plus the wealth of takeaway options. Which is exactly what we did!
iasg Restaurant is a concept that focuses on serving up the freshest fish sustainably sourced from the Scottish waters and we can confirm, that their dishes were very tasty. We enjoyed a cocktail and oysters before heading back up to our room to get takeout with our dog!
We left Indie for about an hour whilst we dined in the lively bar - this was what was so perfect about the evening, we got a taste of going out but then finished the night in a comfy bed with our dog and a good old-fashioned Deliveroo!
(iasg is a Gallic word for fish by the way)
But, if you’ve not got a furry pal in tow then there are plenty of options!
You could head on out to the cosmopolitan West End for a fancy steak in Bo’Vine Meats and Wine, a pizza at the very popular Paesano Pizza, or try trendy Asian street food at Embargo.
What about breakfast?
We love going down for a good slap-up breakfast but this time we went rogue and decided to get room service!
Why? Because the room was so god damn nice.
We woke up to a beautiful sunrise, popped on the dressing gowns provided, and waited for the knock on the door. The previous night we had listed out what we wanted on the slips that were left in our room and when it arrived at 8 am, it did not disappoint. The Scottish tattie scones were delicious!
This was such a great option for a dog-friendly city stay that’s a bit special, romantic even, and allows you to explore the city but switch off once you walk through the hotel doors.
A huge thank you to Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel for hosting us all, it was one of the best dog-friendly weekends away we have ever had!
